Reporting to the Operations Director, the Accountant is responsible for providing accurate financial data and recommendations based on their findings. The individual creates systems and processes for analyzing, writing, and following legal requirements and recommends improvements to business procedures.

Essential Duties

  • Accountable for timely and accurately capturing all financial transitions, including:
    • Tracks payables and expenses, ensures bills are paid, and clears the bank feed
    • Maintains AP vendor files
    • Maintains fixed asset listing
    • Ensures tuition revenue is properly recorded
    • Works with Advancement team to ensure revenues are properly recorded
    • Manages weekly deposit process
    • Allocates/maps expenses to specific grants/funding sources
  • Records monthly, quarterly, and yearly adjustments for:
    • Depreciation
    • Prepaid Expenses
    • Accruals
    • Bad Debt
  • Ensures internal control processes are effectively executed
  • Supports HR Associate and Third-Party Controller to ensure payroll information is properly coded and entered correctly and on time
  • Point person for collecting and responding to all internal financial questions
  • Responsible for maintaining/collecting credit card receipts
  • Team liaison with Third Party Controller
  • Maintains appropriate fiscal records and assists with audit
  • Works with Third Party Controller to support preparation of financial documents such as financial forecasts and statements
  • Supports the Third-Party Controller in maintaining the Fiscal Policies & Procedures document with input from the Finance Committee
  • Prepares 1099s to be filed

Required Qualifications & Competencies

  • BS degree in Accounting or Finance and a minimum of 5 years of professional experience working in a small-to-medium agency environment
  • Position is expected to work on-site
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office, accounting software and databases
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrated professionalism and good judgement
  • The ability to work independently
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills
  • Clear, precise communication skills and ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Demonstrated organizational and time-management skills
  • Bilingual – Spanish/English with proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking in both languages required
