Reporting to the Family Programs Manager, the Family Educator creates a welcoming environment and delivers a range of high-quality, culturally appropriate, responsive programs, services, and resources that provide families with the knowledge and skills to advocate for, sustain, nurture, and promote their children’s educational and emotional development.
Essential Duties
- Designs with families aiming to meet their goals, interests, and needs
- Recruits families for programs and ensures maximum family participation in Family Programs and school life
- Promotes partnership opportunities with community agencies
- Delivers high quality programs such as Creciendo Juntos
- Records family events and programs participation
- Co-coordinates with Family Programs Manager logistics of events, celebrations, workshops and other meetings
- Coordinates logistics for delivery of programs provided to our families such as ESL, digital literacy classes, financial literacy classes by partner agencies
- Creates and maintains up-to-date community resource database
- Connects families to resources and records the referrals made
- Develops ongoing relationships with current school families
- Ensures all data collection processes are followed and accurately reported
- Identifies family volunteers, ensures volunteer forms are completed and properly filed, and documents number of hours served etc.
- Purchases materials for programs and events
- Prioritizes Family Programs communications to the families
- Promotes leadership opportunities among school families
- Cooperates with other departments as needed
Required Qualifications & Competencies
- Clear, precise communication skills and ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Demonstrated organizational and time-management skills
- Bilingual – Spanish/English with proficiency in reading, speaking, and writing in both languages required
- Demonstrate cultural competency and sensitivity
- Passionate about early childhood education, economic mobility, and immigrant communities
- High School Diploma and 2 years of experience in community work in an area related to the duties described above
- Experience working with families and young children in the community
- Experience working with economically marginalized families of diverse ethnic, language, and cultural backgrounds
- Ability to relate sensitively to families with young children and an expressed interest in early literacy
- Familiarity with MS Office and various business software
- Familiarity with Outcome and Indicator Reporting
- Experience in a multicultural environment
- Familiarity with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public School System preferred
- Experience facilitating classes or workshops
- Demonstrated conflict resolution and mediation skills
- Ability to work flexible hours to meet families’ needs, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends. The position may also require occasional assignment to different work sites
